Tribute to Overseer Babatunde Olugbenga Oladipo

The greatest loss a TEAM can suffer is not on the scoreboard but in the system, it’s the death of a fellow team-mate, player, colleague, juggernaut, guru, a teacher per excellent and former Director of Co-operative Services in the Co-operative Movement of Ogun State.

It is with shock and grief that we acknowledged the sudden death of Late Overseer Babatunde Olugbenga Oladipo, former Director of Co-operative Services, in the Ministry of Community Development and Co-operatives whose death has brought a vacuum in the Co-operative Movement in Ogun State.

The entire members of Staff, Board of Directors of Ogun State Cooperative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED) and the Co-operative Movement of Ogun State wish his wife, children and family, strength and peace as they struggle to cope with his demise.

Mr. Oladipo Babatunde Olugbenga was a conscientious and honest personality, an excellent family man, respected cooperator and above all, a man with a heart of gold.

Elder B. O. Oladipo in his life time was an articulate astute administrator, Teacher of Teachers, a gallant and dogged fighter, an indefatigable Community Leader, disciplined and exemplary of wisdom, humorous, kind and humane fellow. As the President of Ogun State Co-operative Staff (Abeokuta) CTCS Limited for periods spanning over two (2) decades, he was able to turn around the fortune of Co-operative Society to a Multi-Million Naira profit spinning organization through which several members/workers in the employ of State Government became not only Land or House and Car owners but also witnessed an unprecedented improvement in their welfare.

A trained Teacher, Mr. B. O. Oladipo left indelible marks on the sand of time throughout his leadership as Principal, Ogun State Co-operative College, Ijeja, Abeokuta (An affiliate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State) for periods between years 2002 – 2012 when he was appointed as the Deputy Director of Co-operative Services and later became the Director of Co-operative Services in 2013 through October, 2019 when he retired meritoriously from active service in the employ of Ogun State.

His tenure as the Director of Co-operative Services brought about several imminent changes and achievements which include:

  1. Change of the Co-operative Calendar of activities from April – March to January – December each year in 2016.
  2. Introduction of the Concept of the Mandatory Leadership Training for Trustees of newly registered Co-operative Societies and Unions.
  3. He was genuinely committed to reviving moribund and sleeping Co-operative Societies and Unions and reinvigorating the performing Co-operative Societies and Unions in Ogun State.
  4. He organized and presented papers on relevant Topics and Themes at several Seminars/Workshops/Conferences.
  5. He was an erudite Scholar, Author and highly energetic personality.
  6. He was a member of the Committee on Review of Co-operative Laws in 2006.
  7. He established and registered the Progressive Success Ijeja (Abeokuta) CTCU Limited.

Overseer Babatunde Olugbenga Oladipo always found time for his junior colleagues, his colleagues, friends and his family especially his wife and children (twins). Inspite of his tight schedule, he was a passionate family man who used to travel several hundreds of miles weekly to attend to the welfare of his wife and children.

His contributions were powerful and his work ethic more than remarkable. Energy commitment, integrity are all words that capture the image of Babatunde Oladipo, Alani – Eki. He will be sorely missed by his family, Ogun State Public Service, Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED) and other groups too numerous to mention. He was known for putting smiles on the face of those who encountered him.

Elder B. O. Oladipo was happily married and blessed with twins (Hephzibah Ireoluwa and Beulah Rereloluwa Oladipo). May the Soul of the departed rest in the bosom of the Lord and may God Almighty grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss in Jesus Name. Amen.

Rest in peace, Babatunde! You will be terribly missed!
